HIMALAYAN HOPE

A Foundation

"East and West Working Together to Create a Trans-Himalayan Bridge"

Statement of Purpose:

The Himalayas are the home of the great spiritual traditions of the ancient past.  In their glory days, they were the very cradle of enlightened civilization.  It is from these, and all legacies of faith, that we draw our inquiry, our practice, our desire for service, and our path toward self-realization.

The Himalayan Hope is to:

promote and enable all activities that foster the development of humanity toward the expression of their highest virtues while addressing the hierarchy of human needs including:  food, shelter, infrastructure, skill, education, economic sustainability, healthcare, communication, meditation/healing practices, and the application and development of technologies for bio-sustainable eco-environments.

Background Information:

Himalayan regions, and many areas of the world, are suffering in poverty and political and economic instability.  Yet within the seeds of these cultures are the richest collections of wisdom teachings from every tradition worldwide.

Our world is hungry for the balance this wisdom could bring to our ailing, avaricious humanity.  Particularly in the West, our wealth has brought us greed and a separation from our true sense of fundamental needs.  The disparity of needs and wealth is accepted in America as an entitlement for accumulation of wealth in the presence of great poverty.

The disparity of needs and wealth is even greater worldwide.  While Western countries accumulate wealth, vast majorities in the rest of the world are left with meager resources, infrastructure and opportunities for advancement.

There is HOPE.  Recognizing the need to balance this disparity is the beginning. Charity alone answers half of the equation.  Humanity’s development of wisdom can promote real and lasting change. It is unlikely the balance will be found along political avenues.  Our greatest hope is private philanthropy channeled along avenues of greatest impact.

Himalayan Hope, a Foundation, has chosen the following avenues of influence:

(1) The preservation of wisdom traditions through a broad range of charitable activities addressing physical and developmental needs.

(2) The promotion of cultural, educational, and pilgrimage exchange to enhance awareness of wisdom’s value and expand the global influence of these teachings.

(3) To promote and enable all activities that foster the development of humanity toward the expression of their highest virtues while addressing the hierarchy of human needs including:  food, shelter, infrastructure, skill, education, economic sustainability, healthcare, communication, meditation/healing practices, and the application and development of technologies for bio-sustainable eco-environments.
